![]() Our Miner swimmers had a stellar weekend at the Arkansas-Little Rock Christmas Invitational. The team return home after automatically qualifying ten athletes to the NCAA Division II Championship meet. Matt Hug also broke the school record in the 1,650-yard freestyle with a time of 15:47.06, and a number of relay teams earned first place honors. I’m pretty sure that makes us the unofficial National Champions. Not only this, but there is an extensive list of people who also made provisional qualifying cuts. In addition, Dustin Spieker finished fifth in the 400-IM, and earned two sixth place finishes in the 200 and 100-yard backstroke events. Rory Swift placed eighth in the 200-yard backstroke, while Andy Shelley finished seventh and eighth in the 200 and 100-yard freestyle events, respecttively. Our National Champion UMR swimmers’ next meet will be after the Christmas break. It will be held on Friday, January 5th and Saturday, January 6th at the Indianapolis Invitational in Indianapolis, Indiana. To find out what the latest and greatest thing our National Champion swimmers will do next, tune into the next issue when we come back from Christmas break. |
