I want to thank everyone for reading this week in and week out. I would like everyone to go to www.themissouriminer.com and go to my blog and comment about this article or other rants that I have. If you think I am a bull headed idiot, then go ahead and say that, if you want me to write about the one thing you can’t stand about the University, then by all means tell me and I’ll try and get it into an article for everyone to read. Just go to the site and comment. All of the stories that you read in the paper are in there and if you think one was poorly written, go ahead and tell us, we would love to hear it. Now on to a more serious topic, that really bothers me a great deal. I know most of us here at UMR have an online account of some sorts and some of us probably live out on the web as a different person. Some people can act out all of their sick little fantasies online and get away with it. Pedophiles are the absolute scum of the earth. I have turned on the news the last couple of weeks and every time there has been something about online predators. These online predators do not try and hide the fact at all that they are a twenty or thirty something looking for friendship with a 14 year old or sometimes even younger. Is your life that bad that you can’t get with anyone your own age? Do you feel the need to dominate over someone that bad? I don’t understand what is going through their minds when they are talking to a 14 year old about sex. I have watched NBC’s nightly news with Brian Williams and I wonder what these people are thinking when they walk into a house and see him standing there in this girls kitchen. Have these people been so attracted to the computer that they have not watched any TV? This has been all over the news and even hit shows like “Criminal Minds” are jumping on the online predator bandwagon. I think it is a great idea to sucker these losers into a set up home and then arrest them for attempting to have sex. I really didn’t like them going after our military personnel. I know most of us are old enough that these predators are not going to bother us, but we are going to start having children and they will no doubt have more access to the internet than we have and therefore more chances for predators to get to them. If something drastic does not happen soon we will have to worry for our children and I for one do not want to have to worry about online predators. Just keep that in the back of your minds as you find yourselves getting jobs that maybe you can make an impact on the internet and the security issues we have right now. |
