Governor Matt Blunt signs a bill allowing MSU students to work jointly with Missouri S&T to obtain degrees in civil and electrical engineering.
Gov. Matt Blunt visited the Missouri University of Science and Technology last Thursday, March 13, to sign a bill that provides funding for a joint engineering program with Missouri State University (MSU). House Bill 2020 provides one-time funding of one million dollars to start a program that will allow students at MSU to receive bachelor’s degrees in electrical and civil engineering.     Gov. Blunt addressed a group of students, faculty and staff before signing the bill, and stressed how important engineering programs are since thousands of engineering jobs will be vacant in Missouri in the near future.
Missouri S&T will receive $500,000 for developing the facilities, equipment and course materials necessary for distance education.  MSU will receive $500,000 to update the buildings and labs necessary for civil and electrical engineering courses.
While MSU students will complete the majority of their coursework at the MSU campus, taught by both MSU and Missouri S&T faculty, they will also have ten distance courses available. Travel to Rolla will also be necessary for some courses.
MSU students who participate in the joint engineering program will receive degrees from Missouri S&T, that also read “in cooperation with Missouri State University.”
