Welcome sports fans to this week’s look at Miner swimming.  The guys were in Springfield, Mo. this past weekend, taking on NCAA Division II defending champions Drury. The Miners held their own, and though the final was a 140-90 loss, UMR did have three swimmers make a provisional qualifying mark for the NCAA Division II Championships.
The Miners picked up two of the 11 events as Matt Hug took the 1,000-yard free-style in 9:33, making the B-cut standard for the Division II meet, and Brian Howell in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:58.71.

Hug also picked up another qualifying time for the B-cut for the national meet with a second place finish in the 500-freestyle with a time of 4:36.06.
Both Andrew Trowbridge and Jeff Enge made the cut as well; with Andrew swimming the 1,000-freestyle in 9:47.37 and Enge swimming 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:11.19.
Kyle Kammer, Kyle Gordon, and Zlatan Hamzic all picked up second place finishes for UMR as well with times of 1:48.61 (200-yard freestyle), 21.98 (50-yard freestyle) and 48.92 (100-free), and 2:09.05 (200-breaststroke) respectively.
Third place efforts were also turned in by Andrew Trowbridge (500-freestyle in 4:44.90), Kammer (200-backstroke in 1:56.04), Chamberlain (200-free in 1:49.80 and 100-free in 49.35 seconds), Sanchez-Turner (50-free in 22.47), Zach Lemons (200-butterfly in 1:59.42), Calcara (200-breaststroke in 2:10.05), and Enge in the 400-IM.
The Miners will be heading to Bowling Green, Ky this weekend to take part in the Western Kentucky Invitational, good luck guys.  So everyone hop on a bus or get the horse and buggy going and head on out to cheer these guys on.  Until next week, good luck, and as always, go Miners!
